France for me has almost universally meant peace, rest and beauty. I've never needed a good reason to go because not for the life of me could I think of a good reason not to. It breaks my heart to see what has happened in Paris. Acts of brutality that serve no benefit to anyone. Even if your heart and soul have sunk into darkness, as for these killers they surely have, such hate only serves to plunge you deeper into the abyss of misery. I cannot imagine the fear and bewilderment that the French are feeling right now, but I know this is a country that endured occupation by the Nazis, survived two World Wars, and has shaped the world with its passions and perceptions. Not for one second would I not consider going back, and what has happened draws me close, not further, from bonds of solidarity and love for this wonderful, beautiful place. No sense has come from today, but for the future of France I know hope and compassion it will implore. Those that have died may they rest in peace, those that have survived, they will live, endure and flourish in the great wide sea of humanity. Liberté. Egalité. Fraternité.
